A
primitive, self-taught artist, I painted my first picture in 1979 in
preparation for a re-enactment of when my uncle, an artist, was visited
in his log cabin home by an unwelcomed bull moose. More paintings
followed over the years, but I have only in the past few years become
serious about painting.
All originals are done in oil and are usually
genre in content. I find
it difficult to paint landscape with no sign of human or animal life. I
have painted equine, moose, deer, cattle, dogs, cats, birds and several
people. I am planning
to do other mammals such as bison, bear, elk,
caribou, dall sheep, and big horn sheep. Also planned is a series on
the pioneers of aviation. Currently, I am working on the only still
life I'll ever paint, finding it necessary to paint one. Also planned
is one seascape that will be very different. Occasionally I paint what
I call doodles, to relax. They are geometric and quite contemporary.
The closest you'll see to a theme in my work is the use of oils and
some
sign of human or animal life.
When not painting at my Three Ponds Studio on Round Pond in Greenwood,
Maine, I can be found hiking, kayaking, boating, sailing, mineral
collecting or following some other outdoor pursuit.
